Most Saturdays at 3 p.m. you’ll find a free informational clinic happening at the shop.  These free events are open to anyone who wants to learn more about their bike!  Read on to find out the range of topics we cover.

Field Repair:

When: Monthly on Saturdays at 3 p.m. Check out the rotating schedule on the right side of the page!
Where: Full Moon Vista – 1239 University Avenue

Sometimes your ride can be unexpectedly interrupted by more than just a simple flat tire. Bicycles are touted as simple machines, until it’s actually time to fix them. Bicycles have a lot of moving parts that can be vulnerable to their surroundings. Derailleurs get caught on sticks, potholes come out of nowhere, and don’t forget about stray dogs (or other riders) who dart out in front of you! Knowing how to make simple repairs may be the difference between riding and walking home.

This clinic won’t make you a master mechanic, but it will arm you with the knowledge to diagnose minor problems and get you back on your bike! The clinic will be mostly classroom style but you’ll have opportunities for hands-on experience too. We encourage you to attend because the ride you save may be your own!

Flat Tire:

Where: Full Moon Vista – 1239 University Avenue

This clinic is for those of you who ride in fear of hearing that dreaded hiss when you’re enjoying a great ride in the middle of nowhere. Repairing a flat tire is very easy to do, but it’s amazing how many riders have never actually fixed a flat for themselves. It’s only a matter of time before it happens to you, so come in and let us show you how to fix a flat tire so you don’t have to teach yourself on the side of the road!

Our Flat Tire Clinic will teach you everything you need to know about changing a flat tire – and all the secrets! The clinic includes both classroom instruction and hands-on practice! We’ve also built in time to answer any
additional questions you might have. You’ll learn about flat-resistant tires, quick release operation, v-brake, caliper release and disc brake operation, tools needed and appropriate tire pressure.

Preventative Maintenance:

When: Monthly on Saturdays at 3 p.m. Check out the rotating schedule on the right side of the page!
Where: Full Moon Vista – 1239 University Avenue

With a little regular maintenance, your bike will last you a very long time! In this clinic we’ll discuss regular maintenance that you can do to your bike, as well as suggestions for things to do routinely to keep your bike running well. We’ll also discuss areas of the bike that will experience normal wear and tear, and what the life expectancy of these parts might be. This is a quick clinic that might save you LOTS of time in the future!

Shifting:

When: Monthly on Saturdays at 3 p.m. Check out the rotating schedule on the right side of the page!
Where: Full Moon Vista – 1239 University Avenue

Shifting a bicycle’s gears sounds simple enough, doesn’t it? You just move the levers around until you’re pedaling at a comfortable cadence, right?
The modern bicycle drivetrain is a marvel of mechanical engineering, yet for all of its sophistication we occasionally hear about the frustration people experience with shifting their bikes into the right gear. Excessive drivetrain problems can of course be caused by an improperly adjusted derailleur, but it is also important to realize that shifting a bicycle is more than a matter of simply moving the shift levers.

This clinic covers everything you ever wanted to know about shifting, and perhaps a bit more. If you’ve ever felt that your bicycle has a mind of its own when it comes to shifting, this clinic will teach you how to make every shift with precision and finesse. Come ready to learn about soft pedaling, chainring engagement, chain alignment, and more!
